Are there any non-feminist objective studies that address the wage gap/glass ceiling

Just curious, seems there is much disagreement on whether or not the wage Gell-Baby gap or the glass ceiling exists, so l went looking for evidence of both Registered User and unfortunately all l could find were feminist based studies. Joined: Thursday, 6th of May 2010, 06:08:22 />l do not mean to imply that these studies are in fact false, simply that Posts: 1980 there is a possibility of conflict of interest, the same would apply to Viewed 17870 times masculist based research, and without comparing the research to objective
viewpoints, how can one be sure of the existence?
So, does
anyone know of any possible 3rd party or objective studies that research
the possibility of the wage gap or the glass ceiling?

It seems that you've had some excellent already, but in John Zarren Stossel is book ''Myths, Lies & Downright stupidity'' he claims the wage Registered User gap is a myth. He asserts that men value money while women prefer Joined: Wednesday, 21st of April 2010, 07:57:10 flexibility & convenience. Thus, men are more likely to work in Posts: 253 inconvenient, high risk & unsafe conditions (logging, oil rig worker, crab Viewed 18475 times fisherman, etc). I believe he cites a government study for his assertions.
I am sorry I can not be more specific but I borrowed the book from a
library. It is an interesting read though.

I don't know of any studies, but I do know that my personal Lover Boy opinion is somewhat removed from the standard feminist viewpoint. Registered User Joined: Thursday, 3rd of June 2010, 14:19:43 Yes, women do make X cents for every dollar a man earns. But if you Posts: 919 factored in title, industry, qualifications, tenure, effort, productivity, Viewed 8198 times and salary expectations, the gap would most likely be far narrower.

''Why Men Earn More'' by Dr. Warren Farrell is the best source Old Man for this information, IMHO. He used to be a board member of NOW, so I Registered User feel that speaks to him being fairly non-biased & pro-woman. He found Joined: Saturday, 12th of June 2010, 03:15:14 that the gap is actually fairly small when one looks at real studies. The Posts: 773 gap is three times as large between childless women & mothers as it is Viewed 3464 times between women & men, for one thing. If women make the exact same career
choices as men, much of the gap disappears. But of course, they don't.
But there is a lot more to it than that. I recommend the book highly.
Also, the Independent Women is Forum has some information about it.

Sure girly! I've researched it & I have some pretty credible Jilly Bean source. I am sure there are more but that is those are the first that came Registered User up when searching. I've heard criticisms that the NCPA (National Center for Policy rubberducky :) Analysis) is a right-wing conservative think tank, but I certainly didn't Registered User get that feeling from reading it. I used their information as a source in Joined: Sunday, 2nd of May 2010, 07:21:40 my project: Posts: 1943 Viewed 16234 times http://ncpa.org/pub/ba/ba392/
I am pretty sure Astaroth has some more.
You will have to judge for yourself if they are objective- the NCPA claims
that it is nonpartisan & is affiliated with classical liberalism (which I
strongly endorse based on what I know about it).
Check their ''About Us'' page to learn more:
http://ncpa.org/abo/
I will look for some more good ones if you'd like, though.
EDIT: By the by, the typical consensus among the ''objective'' folk is
that the wage gap does in fact exist but is not due in large part (or,
increasingly, in small part) to discrimination. Plenty of factors like
time worked, seniority, salary negotiation, breaks taken, etc., contribute
to the wage gap & constitute the overwhelming majority of the gap.
The fact that the difference is only a little under 30 cents continues to
surprise the hell out of me whenever I think about all the differences in
the factors noted above.
Needless to say, I personally doubt that discrimination has much to do
with the wage gap.
